WONCA Fellowship

The Fellowship of WONCA is WONCA’s most prestigious award. It is awarded to individuals who have rendered outstanding service to the WONCA organization. It is awarded at meetings of the WONCA World Council, but only if a suitably qualified candidate is identified.

Honorary Life Direct Membership is awarded in recognition of contributions to the work of the WONCA organization and/or to general practice/family medicine on a world basis.

WONCA’s award of Excellence in Health Care, called the Five Star Doctor Award, is judged on the following five criteria; a care provider, a decision maker, a communicator, a community leader, and a team member.

WONCA foundation award

The Award was founded through a grant from the Royal College of GPs and is to be used to further the aim of “fostering and maintaining high standards of care in general practice/ family medicine” by enabling physicians to travel to appropriate countries to instruct in general practice/ family medicine, and appropriate physicians from developing countries to spend time in areas where they may develop specials skills and knowledge in general practice/ family medicine.

Montegut Scholar award

The Montegut Global Scholars Program (MGSP) was established by the ABFM-F in April 2010. It was named in honor of Alain Montegut, MD. The MGSP was established to foster international education, research and collaboration, in the specialty of family medicine. It will support the attendance of one family physician from each of the seven regions of WONCA to their regional meetings or to the international meeting in the year when it is held.

Taiwan family medicine research award

The Taiwan Family Medicine Research Award (TFMRA) was established by the Chinese Taipei Association of Family Medicine in 2008. The TFMRA was founded to encourage junior family physicians to conduct research in the specialty of family medicine. It will support two junior family physicians to attend the WONCA World Conference.

Atai Omorutu Scholarship Award

The aim of the award is to support opportunities for African women doctors whose economic circumstances limit their ability to attend WONCA biennial conferences, particularly those women in their early career.
